In 1917 the first Lions Club was formed in Chicago by a businessman by the name of Melvin Jones. He envisaged that, through volunteers, there were things that could be done to improve the community. From these humble beginnings, Lions Clubs International flourished and has grown to 1.4 million volunteers in 48,000 clubs in over 200 countries worldwide.
What do Lions do?
Lions serve by their support and involvement in programs in their communities in the areas of vision, the environment, humanitarian needs and youth to name a few.
The Port Colborne Lions Club was chartered on October 25, 1922, the twelfth Lions Club in Canada, and during the ensuing over 100 years has played a major role in strengthening the fabric of the community.
In 1922 a group of citizens saw a need to strengthen the civic, cultural and social fabric of the Town of Port Colborne and that could best be accomplished through a group of organized volunteers.
Being a Lion is a rewarding experience! We share in fellowship and humanitarian work in our community and internationally.
